Gabriella Rojas, Catering & Special Events Manager
Gabriella Rojas is one of the newest members of the Lettuce Entertain You family, and has been with us for two months. She was an avid fan of Summer House, Stella Barra and Mon Ami Gabi, and when she learned they were Lettuce Entertain You restaurants, she rushed to join the team! Gabriella has a background in studio art and got her start at a wedding venue. When she transitioned to the historic Old Angler’s Inn and was able to work hands-on with chefs and menus, she realized her passion for the industry and that the absolute center of any good event is incredible food and service! It was at the Old Angler’s Inn that she found her first career mentor, who encouraged her to explore her creativity, and be independent and confident in everything she does.
“The most key part of an unforgettable event is strategizing ahead of time with our team, so that you can enjoy the event and not worrying about every detail. That’s our job!” says Gabriella. “Get your timeline and flow set in stone well ahead of time.”
Gabriella’s Italian family taught her to be an adventurous eater, starting with homemade pasta nights with handmade ravioli, gnocchi and more. She advises to never be afraid of spice, introducing a little heat for your favorite foods and working your way up. Getting out to her family’s farm with honeybees, chicken coops and the whole nine yards keeps her passionate about fresh, farm-to-table eating—right in line with Summer House’s commitment to sustainability. In her free time, Gabriella likes to hike the scenic Chesapeake & Ohio Canal and cooking on her outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. Delish!
Alison Lowry, Divisional Catering Director
Alison Lowry heads catering and special events for Lettuce Entertain You’s Chris Meers Division, consisting of Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba!, Mon Ami Gabi, Community Canteen, Summer House and Stella Barra. And she’s definitely earned the title, having been a part of the family for 12 years! She studied at the Kendall College Culinary Arts School in Chicago and from there worked in restaurant management for a Hawaiian fusion concept, and eventually arrived at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba. This background makes it easier for her recommend food and wines for a party, understand the flow of a restaurant and how it will be impacted by parties, and speaking the chefs’ language in customizing menus for clients.
“The best part about North Bethesda is that at its core, it’s evolved so much over the years,” Alison remarks. “And during that, Lettuce Entertain You made its impact. Summer House and Stella Barra were amazing in that no one else in the neighborhood was doing what our concepts were doing.” She particularly loves the restaurants’ open kitchen, which lets guests see the creations come together and feel like they’re a part of that experience. When it comes to catering, she recommends the Ahi Tuna Tostadas, salad bar and Turkey Club platters — the food is so fresh and clean that it transcends seasons!
Growing up, Alison’s mom always made bundt cakes for her and her siblings’ birthdays, so now that tradition is being passed down to Alison’s kids and beyond. To her, food brings together people who might not always be able to see each other, and at Summer House and Stella Barra, it’s easy to “sell” food that she is proud of and believes in. She credits Partners Michael Cunningham and Mark Sotelino as her inspiration on the job, as they share her vision of parties and catering adding to the restaurant experience. In her free time, Alison enjoys taking her kids to local parks, and camping and boating trips on the shores of Lake Michigan.
